After a brief possession of Anubis by the Intellect Devourer, and the intervention of [[Roderick Kenneth Williamson]], Practicant Marius rearrived, and beckoned the crew to go to the top deck to conduct formal interrogation of the suspects. Anubis, transformed into his Furio alter ego, was restrained by the rest of this party, and was under suspicion by both them and Marius for his rage, as well as Roderick's ignorant prejudice against kitsune, whom he viewed as uncivilized barbarians who have bladders in their heads. Additionally, it was discovered that Spruce's Anti-Kraken Buoy was damaged.

He attempted to play to Roderick's ill will towards his old rival, Valamir Ulric de Spruys, into suggesting Valamir as the suspect, but Roderick did not bite. The party formally accused Marius of incompetence, if not specifically malicious intent, in his conduct as quartermaster of the Hollow Swallow to the apparition of Edwin Spruce, which reappeared to them.

Roderick realized that the spellstone that was said to be in Marius' old chambers by the ledger was not there.

The morning after the last session, the crew met in the meeting room of the vessel. Above, a member of the crew sighted land, shrouded in mist. [[Syve Draifly]], Anubis, and Nyx volunteered themselves to scout out the shores, while Whiskey Bob ordered Hythlodaeus and Roderick to accompany the party. Before the boat departed, Whiskey Bob told the crew to be back in the next 24 hours.

The crew and Syve travelled on a dinghy through the mysterious fog and landed on the docks of a small community. They met the tall human Abraham Pelz, and his mysterious gnome companion, [[Snag-ool]], an aged mine worker with a hunk of spellstone lodged in his head. As mayor of the community, Pelz welcomed the crew to the town of Rugenburg, and told the crew that it was founded as a community for Helskari artists and freethinkers to live free from the stifling social hierarchy of the Helsingfyrd Pact. He told the crew to check out the weekly market that was currently ongoing outside of the town walls. He seemed surprised that the crew was not heading to the nearby abandoned spellstone mines, and he told them to not visit the mine, due to the dangers and lost technologies, before inviting the crew to the festival and the inn.

The town seemed misty, ramshackle, and almost abandoned as the crew walked through it towards the festival, accompanied by Snag-ool and Pelz, who told the crew about the town's ancient origins. They then met some odd local figures such as [[Baron Ruben Hogwallow]], a resentful local halfling farmer who claimed to be rightful heir of the town, but was cheated out by the King of Callow. He also mentioned [[Practicant Liona]], who disappeared towards the mines under mysterious circumstances. Nyx took a lute from a local vendor.

The crew then approached an abandoned, half-flooded fort. They explored this fort which seemed long-abandoned and ruined. As the sun set, they realized Snag-ool was missing. The party tried to find him, and dug through the ruins, passing by some strangely contemporary chests and gear. The party eventually stumbled upon a deep vertical hole within the ruins.

The tunnel cut through multiple layers of ruins, and as theparty traversed down the tunnel via rope, they saw evidence of primordial earthquakes, and an ancient hieroglyphic mural of humanoids giving an offering to a strange techno-mechanical figure.The party reached a cave at the bottom of the tunnel and was confronted with a hostile Snag-ool, who reshaped the earth with his magic and attempted to kill the party using aberrant mind mining-themed sorcery. Abraham Pelz, in the form of a werewolf, also was hiding at the bottom of the tunnel. He attacked the party.

The party quickly immobilized Pelz, and then focused on Snag-ool, who was sitting back, slinging spells.Shortly before Snag-ool died, he destroyed the spellstone lodged in his head, releasing a lightning bolt spell that hit the whole party, as well as Pelz, killing Pelz and Snag-ool, and wounding the entire party. The party then found the corpse of Practicant Liona at the bottom of the cave, with a final letter on it that hinted that they were not alone, haunted by other lycanthrope(s).

They defeated the quasit and were led to a waterfall with a path behind. A wererat from above ambushed the party. Nyx and Hythlodaeus climbed up the path and escaped, Roderick and Anubis faced off against this creature. Roderick was able to intimidate this creature into allying with him and Anubis. They chased the rest of the party down the path. Roderick and Anubis then confronted a strange Shadow Demon.''

The session began under the abandoned ruin, with Snag-ool and Abraham Pelz dead. The party debated what to do, and investigated Snag-ool's old chambers in the caves underneath the ruins. Nyx gained two enchanted swords that were placed in an enticing chamber in the cavern. A mysterious quasit entered the chamber from above, before being killed by the party, but not before they realized the quasit was trying to climb up a hidden passage behind a waterfall in the cavern. The party debated whether to climb up the waterfall. Roderick pocketed an eldritch Book of Shadows on Abraham Pelz's corpse, while Anubis took a pickaxe topped with spellstone from Snag-ool's personal chest.

Eliya tried to kill the party and almost called down another lycanthrope to finish the job, but she was scared by Roderick, who summoned a minor illusion of Grimsby to frighten her. Roderick and Anubis then gathered that she was trying to kill a demon that she served at the center of the caverns.

Somehow, Anubis and Roderick convinced Eliya that they were on her side and together, and wanted to help Eliya slay the demon and have Eliya take over the demon's position. Anubis was eager to kill a demon, while Roderick just wanted to keep everyone safe. Roderick tried to get Eliya to "retrieve" Hythlodaeus and Nyx, while Hythlodaeus and Nyx, scared and unsure of what was going on, ran off into the mines, attempting to escape the wererat, that was seemingly after them. Roderick resisted traveling into the waterfall, but Anubis was able to take him and chase the rest of the party.

The beast then got Anubis to enthusiastically agree to fight the Shadow Demon at the center of this mine, surrounded by fungal mephits, while Roderick played along. Hythlodaeus and Nyx, scared and unsure of what was going on, then escaped from the mine into the outside world.

In contrast, Anubis and Roderick then planned with the wererat to attack the demon. After mourning Snag-ool, her old companion, she told Roderick and Anubis to throw Snag-ool's pickaxe at the demon to send the myconids afeter it.

The session then ended with the party split. Hythlodaeus and Nyx were outside of the mine, while Steck, Roderick, and Anubis were preparing to face the unseen demon in the mines, surrounded by myconid miners.
